Benefits of using Pocket PC Scanners, which are also referred to as a mobile computer, are numerous.  They streamline the recording of information at your client's premises thus eliminating this task back at the office. This ability can be important for reasons such as:

bullet Providing a professional report of your service immediately upon completion, while still at your client's premises.
bullet Accurately recording pesticide applications - easily record what was used, where it was used, when it was used, and how it was applied. This information can be easily recorded for every location treated at a home, commercial building, apartment complex, etc. with just a few clicks of the screen. Some states such as Georgia now require this detailed record information which would be nearly impossible to accomplish by any other means.
bullet Accurate invoicing - using PestClick with a Pocket PC enables the technician to update the services actually provided to the customer, i.e. additional vents installed, thereby insuring an accurate invoice without office personnel involvement.
bullet Accurate information - if written records are brought back to the office to be entered then the office personnel are inputting and interpreting the technician's information costing additional administrative time and possibly leading to recording errors.
bullet Account knowledge - to proactively understand your client's property and their pest issues its important to have a pest and treatment history.

Questions you should ask when purchasing mobile computers/scanners include:

bullet

Is the scanner capable of additional uses i.e. mapping/directions, printing MSDSs/labels or other customer documents/literature, etc.  The Symbol units we recommend can be used for many other purposes.

bullet

Does it use a proprietary operating system or one used industry-wide? A proprietary system requires custom software to be created for any additional uses. The Symbol units use Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system (the most widely used operating system for handheld computers).

bullet

What is the device's battery life? The Symbol unit's batteries last for a typical day's worth of work or longer.

bullet

If the battery dies what happens to my information on the scanner? All information is in non-volatile memory which does not depend on the battery to maintain.

bullet

Can the device withstand a drop to concrete? The Symbol MC70 are rated to withstand a 4 foot drop to concrete.

bullet

Can the device withstand high humidity or rain? The Symbol MC70 is IP-54 Category II rated to withstand wind driven rain and moisture.

bullet

Does it come with a docking station for connecting to the computer? All our standard kits come with the docking station.

bullet

Does it have the ability to recharge in the vehicle? All our standard kits come with the car charging adapter.

Symbol Technology's mobile computers have excelled at use in the pest management industry and offer many features you need in order to conduct business without disruption such as:

bullet

All recommended Symbols use Windows Pocket PC/Mobile PC Operating System - the most widely used operating system for mobile computers. Has thousands of additional applications readily available.

bullet

All recommended Symbols use Non-Volatile Memory for data storage - this safe guards your information even if the batteries completely die. The kits we provide include a docking station kit to connect to the desktop computer, and a vehicle charger kit.

bullet

Rugged Construction - The MC70 are rated to withstand a 4 foot drop to concrete and the MC50 is rated for a 3 foot drop without damage.

bullet

Recommended Symbols have at least an IP54 seal rating - this means they are capable of withstanding wind blown dust and rain. Additional models are available for even harsher environments and for use in flammable/volatile conditions.

bullet

All recommended Symbols have Touch screens which allows easy input.

bullet

All have a built-in bar code scanner. The device is sealed and designed for your environment and intended purpose. No add-on barcode parts or cards which are easily broken and have additional costs.

bullet

All have a built-in Infrared Port. This allows for quick and easy printing without hooking up to cables.

bullet

The MC50 and MC70 devices can be equipped with both Bluetooth and WLAN wireless network. A wireless network provides additional benefits for some users.

Please note: For purposes of equipping pest technicians, a pocket pc pda type device will suffice. It is assumed that these individuals will not be servicing termite stations and that their services are indoors. Call us to determine if your pda model is compatible with PestClick.

Light Duty use:

Our recommendation for those technicians with light-duty barcode scanning needs and doing mostly inside services such as a pest technician would be the MC50.

The MC50 from Symbol Technologies is first in a class of mobile computers that combines an enhanced PDA-style form factor with optimal performance to operate Pocket PC applications. This small, lightweight mobile computer features advanced data capture options, flexible voice and data communication and easy wireless local area network (WLAN) synchronization.

The MC50 is designed to be more durable than a consumer-grade PDA. Extra reliability is built into every aspect of the MC50 - from battery contacts to keypads to acoustics - to ensure it exceeds the performance demands of daily, high-volume usage. Pest Technicians can feel more confident using the MC50.

For those who have a need to scan barcodes outdoors such as termite technicians, we have had an excellent experience with Symbol Technology products and they have two units which we recommend.

Heavy Duty use:

Put the power of a cell phone, PDA, computer, and bar code scanner, all enclosed in one unit, into the hands of your technicians with the MC70. Designed to withstand all-day everyday use in nearly any environment, this rugged compact device delivers true anywhere anytime wireless WAN/LAN/PAN voice and data communications, including superior voice functionality, advanced data capture and the power to run nearly any application. The MC70 provides everything your technicians need to complete their tasks in today's modern pest management world.

The MC70 runs Microsoft Mobile 5.0 embedded operating system and is equipped with an Intel PXA270 XScale Processor. The VGA color touch screen and keypad options along with integrated barcode scanner enable a variety of data capture capabilities. The MC70 has both integrated 802.11b (WLAN) and Bluetooth (WPAN) connectivity enabling real-time communications and decision making for the technician on the go. This unit has a Secure Digital memory slot for expansion. The MC70 also has an optional built-in cell phone.

The MC70 would be our recommendation for those technicians with heavy duty barcode scanning needs and conducting service both outside and indoors such as a "Universal Technician".
